LENA IGNESTAM
"Morph Estate II"
Opening, Friday 7th December, 6 - 9 pm
NB: New opening hours, Wed-Fri 5-8 pm, Sat-Sun 1-5 pm
Lena Ignestam presents her piece, "Morph Estate II", a sculptural installation, designed especially for CirkulationsCentralen, built upon an experimental ongoing piece from previous exhibitions at Overgarden (Institute for Contemporary Art, Copenhagen 2005) and Aura (Lund 2007), both of which attracted a great deal of attention.
A giant stucco sculpture stretches out from the ceiling - but distorted, melting, it has begun to transform. The piece is inspired by thoughts of displacement and change, norms and values, on both a psychological and social level.
Born in 1965, Lena Ignestam now lives and works in Malmö, having received her artistic education at the Nordic Art School in Karleby, Finland and at the Art Academy in Copenhagen. In recent years Ignestam has participated in exhibitions at Charlottenborg, Thorvaldens Museum and the Art Academy in Copenhagen, Gallery 54 in Gothenburg, and Gallery F15 in Moss, Norway. Ignestam received a two year grant from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee in 2003, as well as an arts grant from the city of Malmö in 2004. Currently she is working on a considerable project: the decoration for a middle school in Kristianstad County, commissioned by the Government's Art Council.
