JOHN KNUTH

SUGERLAND

Vernissage 19 Jan kl 18-21
Pågår till och med söndag 28 Jan

Sugarland uses heat, water, and pests to sculpt large quantities of sugar. An alchemic process creates sugar volcanoes that emit plumes of caramel-smelling smoke. Sugar lava flows down the sides of the mounds, creating new forms over the course of the exhibition.

John Knuth (*1978) highlights the processes and experiments involved in the production of his works. He is interested in the elevation of base materials in his sculptures and installations to beautiful outcomes. Knuth received his MFA from the University of Southern California in 2005. He lives and works in Los Angeles.

The approach is personal and communal, selfish and altruistic. We look for freedom and the pursuit of truth and happiness, discipline, history, processes, the feeling of being out of control and the sense of wonderment. We sometimes call people idiots. We are stand-up folks. There may be some kind of attempt at exposing certain relationships and anatomies, maybe just for us, but not really, but totally. We are believers. Hell, we all live in Los Angeles.

Welcome!
